I do occasionally find things other than BRPG to drool over ;-)
Almost always new software or gadgets though.

phpBB v3 ("aka" Olympus)

Not coming out for a long time still, but it has sooo many features I've been wanting ;-)

Wow, that's an impressive feature list! Any word on when they expect it to be done? 2006? 2007?

They hinted sometime mid-2007 from the little bit I read in their forums, but they didn't want to say anything for sure.

Cool. They might be out before Vista then :)

That's awesome news! Some of the new features look extremely useful.

Though, I can imagine 50 million sites being down for a few hours for the upgrade.

Yeah phpBB is always free :D

But as mentioned, phpBB 3 (AKA "Olympus") isn't out yet.

For anyone interested, the first beta of phpBB 3 is out.

I wouldn't use it for anything important, but it will be fun to play around with. ;-)

I've had a heavily modded phpBB message board up and running for about a year. I use it for private RPGs, RPGs that have "content issue" and aren't allowed at Myth-Weavers, and as the base for my chat games.

For real-time RPGs, I'v been using an "RPG Chat" page of my own creation. It has an AJAX based chat box that parses my dice roller BBCode and an iframe to display the map. I make my edits in Photoshop and then publish directly to FTP. So far, it works well . . . better than most of the currently available virtual desktops.

Perhaps Battlegrounds will make me change my mind. ;-)

I am excited to see that phpBB 3.x is on the way. It's practically "full featured."
