My latest addictions, as far as TV series are concerned, are House of Cards (produced by Netflix, starring Kevin Spacey) and Vikings (produced by The History Channel).

I saw the last episode of Spartacus last night. What a great conclusion to a great show. I'm going to miss it. I'll probably watch the whole series again, someday.

I finally got around to seeing Firefly, the TV series. OMG, I can't believe that show was cancelled after just one season! If you missed out on this show, and even remotely like sci-fi, do yourself a favor and watch it.

I've heard some people are turned off by the Western genre element they added to give the sci-fi a unique flavor. Don't be. The western stuff is only about 5% of the show.

Been a while since I recommended any movies or TV series.

Movies:
American Sniper
12 Years a Slave

TV Shows:
True Detective

Lately, I've not been watching much at all. Most of my entertainment now takes the form of audiobooks, to which I've become addicted. But that topic may require a thread of its own.

Does anyone else have any viewing recommendations?

Speaking of Audible, there's a [urlx=http://www.audible.com/mt/Treat-Yourself-2015-New/ref=a_hp_c2_1?ie=UTF8&pf_rd_r=0RZHRZRJ97T1HVJCSHYZ&pf_rd_m=A2ZO8JX97D5MN9&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_i=5000&pf_rd_p=2310596402&pf_rd_s=center-2]Sale[/urlx] on currently that includes some books I can heartily recommend.

In no particular order...
[urlx=http://www.audible.com/pd/Sci-Fi-Fantasy/Monster-Hunter-International-Audiobook/B004RGQ6UQ]Monster Hunter International[/urlx]
[urlx=http://www.audible.com/pd/Sci-Fi-Fantasy/Golden-Son-Audiobook/B00R6S1RCY]Golden Son, Book 2 of the Red Rising trilogy[/urlx]
[urlx=http://www.audible.com/pd/Sci-Fi-Fantasy/Zombie-Fallout-Audiobook/B007OQ04TK]Zombie Fallout[/urlx]
[urlx=http://www.audible.com/pd/Fiction/My-Life-as-a-White-Trash-Zombie-Audiobook/B008EL7A28]My Life as a White Trash Zombie[/urlx]
[urlx=http://www.audible.com/pd/Sci-Fi-Fantasy/A-Shrouded-World-Whistlers-Audiobook/B00PHF6WX2]A Shrouded World - Whistlers[/urlx]
[urlx=http://www.audible.com/pd/Sci-Fi-Fantasy/Hard-Magic-Audiobook/B004XMIMHE]Hard Magic: Book I of the Grimnoir Chronicles[/urlx]

Those are all Book 1 of a series, except for Golden Son (which I haven't yet read, but Book 1 was excellent).

Also, the book I am currently listening to, [urlx=http://www.audible.com/pd/Sci-Fi-Fantasy/Redshirts-Audiobook/B007SP2LPM]Redshirts[/urlx], which should appeal to Trekkies.

Getting back to the thread topic of movies and TV shows, thumbs up for Jessica Jones (Marvel superhero series) and Fargo (the 2014 TV series, not the movie).

EDIT: And I almost forgot to mention...[urlx=http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4189022/?ref_=fn_al_tt_4]Ash vs Evil Dead[/urlx]

If you like animated films at all, I highly recommend Patema Inverted. Best movie I've seen in years. Similar to the style of the Miyazaki movies, which I also recommend if you've never seen them.

Thanks for the recommendations.

Is that something I can watch with my young kids?

Absolutely. Patema Inverted and all of the Miyazaki films were intended for all ages.

They're basically the Disney / Dreamworks movies of Japan. In fact one of the Miyazaki films was branded as Disney in the US (The Secret World of Arrietty).
Studio Ghibli is where to look for most of the Miyazaki films. Most of them have been dubbed in english and are great for families, and the ones from Ghibli that Miyazaki didn't have a hand in are good too.

I recently watched Inside Out by Pixar. Ingenious premise and superb humor.

It follows the adventures of the personifications of a girl's emotions inside her mind as she grows up.

The humor is more sophisticated and subtle than most such movies and will not be understood by young children (though it does provide plenty of adventure-style action for them).

I'd compare it to other masterpieces of animated humor like The Incredibles and Shrek 1.

I got Inside Out for my kids. Unfortunately, they've watched it and I haven't yet had a chance to.

Lately I've been enjoying The Shannara Chronicles. And I don't think it's only because I read a good number of the Shannara novels.

Didn't even know they made a Shannara TV show. I'll have to look into it.

My latest addiction is "The Expanse", a SyFy original series. Utterly hooked by the 4th episode.

Finally, a sci-fi series worthy of the genre! Well, besides Battlestar Galactica and the ill-fated Firefly.
