Mapping Help for a World of Farland Project

Post by Farland » Tue Mar 06, 2007 7:04 pm

Hi all! Some of you may know of the World of Farland (in my sig), and some may know that I put out substantial monthly updates.

This month I am putting together with help from my staff an update about the Dark Conquest, when the Lords of Sin conquered the free kingdoms.

I'm looking for someone to give me a little help with a mapping project. Basically I need someone to take a less-than-polished map like the one below and reproduce it in a more professional fashion. Nothing too fancy. It just needs to look like it wasn't done with MS Paint.

There are between 3-5 maps to do and I need them by March 14th. In return you will get credit on the site for your work, and I will give you my appreciation.

So, can anyone help me out?

I'd offer to help, but I'm busy prepping for iCon, and getting v1.0.6 issues sorted out.

You may have better luck with this request on the DJ forums, or here:

If you like I can ask some of the mappers I know and work with if they like to help out (and have the time  ).
I would love to do it myself, but I am also too busy with iCon and other stuff :)

Yeah, I figured the lack of response might have something to do with busy schedules.

The maps I need don't have to be perfect or too fancy, so it shouldn't be too bad.

Kepli, I would love if you could do that for me. :D

Hey, I'm trying to post at the cartography forum, and it seems I'm locked out of every board. It says 'only users granted special priviledges can access this forum." What?

They had a spambot problem there, so now the forum admin needs to approve any new users before they can post. Just give him a little time to respond and activate your account.

I can take a crack at it. It's a short time frame though. What scale?

Here is something that I made that is similar to your request. Let me know if this is something that you are interested in.

Well if you like I could work on that map you posted above and have one done for you to look at sometime this evening,

As for the rest, I would need to look at them for an idea as to their complexity

Want me to try?

Yeah, absolutely, but why don't you start with this map? I don't hurltim would mind and he might appreciate the help. Here's the thread with the maps:

http://www.myth-weavers.com/showthread. ... 188&page=4

They go from page four to the end.

Ahh ok

I can do Dragonspur if ya want to handle the others.

I could put them on my webspace server

You could email them to me at ricksterh@hotmail.com and I will host them

I didnt see mention of any particular size/resolution. Any ideas about that?
Im going to paint it as if it were to be used in BRPG then scale from there I suppose

Well, ideally I would like each map duplicated, but that isn't as bad as it sounds. It would just mean doing the city and background once and then moving the troops around for different maps.

Also, to avoid placing all the houses, you guys can do the maps in "block format," i.e don't place any houses, just delineate the blocks, like this one.

Do you guys want to get together and decide who will do which maps?

When finished they could be emailed to me at webmaster(at)farlandworld(dot)com.

And Venger, they don't have to be huge, as they are to be posted on my site. Really they don't have to be much bigger than the ones in the thread. I'm working under a deadline here. But whatever works for you works for me.

Thanks guys!!! :D

Lord knows I am not the speediest mapper in the world, that's for sure. LOL!

Like you said, the troop movement overlays should be pretty quick.

Right now, I am tied to using individual houses that I can use in DJ. I don't have the time to make block templates to use repeatedly but I can do some cutting and pasting from maps that I have already created.

Venger: Dig in dude!

I wish I had caught this earlier. It's a fun project but the deadline is not conducive to my style of mapping. (Hugely detailed and time consuming in most cases.)

Ill do my best.
