Bug: Can't run BRPG on my Mac (Stuffit Version Error)

Post by siege » Wed Dec 28, 2005 12:34 pm

I'm not sure this is a bug... it's probably something I'm doing wrong, or maybe an instruction I missed... but I can't get the BRPG to start on my Mac. The windows version starts up just fine for me (and I'll get around to the linux testing later this week), but it's a no-go for me on OS X. Maybe I'm just having a stupid attack...

Here's what I've done:

1) Download the zip file.
2) Double-clicking the zip launches stuffit, which extracts "BRPG_Sneak_Preview Folder"
3) Inside that is a folder "Battlegrounds RPG Edition Sneak Preview"
4) Inside that I've got (amongst other things) a file "BRPG Sneak Preview.osx" which, I assume, is the executable (because the exe works on Windows).
5) Double-clicking that produces an error: "There is no default application specified to open the document BRPG Sneak Preview.osx"

If I open a terminal and do a 'file' on that I get:
$ file BRPG\ Sneak\ Preview.osx
BRPG Sneak Preview.osx: header for PowerPC PEF executable
$

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?
I'm using a Mac Mini running 10.4.3. I'll be happy to post the rest of the information in the bug report template, but I'm not sure this is a bug.

Sorry Siege I'm not a Mac user. Might have to wait for Heruca to come back from holiday unless someone else has the answer?

When I unzip the file I get a '__MACOSX' directory inside the 'BRPG_Sneak_Preview' Folder. Inside that folder is another 'Battlegrounds RPG Edition Sneak Preview' folder whihc, I believe, holds the Mac files. It sounds like you're over in the Windows side.

I see the __MACOSX folder as well... but it's just a collection of empty folders. :-(

I have a collection of files and folders containing other files - nothing empty. Maybe worth downloading or unzipping (unstuffing?) again.

Upgrading Stuffit to 10.0 did the trick... looks like the default version that ships with OSX (at least what I got) was 7.x... two years out of date, and it opened the archive corrupted, but without error. Odd.

Bug Appears to be 3rd party related and fixed following upgrade.

Feel free to remove the ".osx" extension, if it´s causing you problems. It isn´t needed at all.

As for the "collection of empty folders", that might just be Mac-only resource forks. I´ll eventually figure out a way to keep them hidden on Windows PCs, so that no one tries to use them by mistake.
