BUG: Maps Not Transfering [Fixed v1.0]

Post by Omnidon » Sat Jul 22, 2006 5:02 pm

This is a repost of a problem that has been affecting ALL versions of BRPG and confusing many users.

When a GM loads a new map, sometimes the player client will just see a loading screen and never receive the map.

This is because BRPG has a technical limitation that prevents files over 2 MB being sent to the players.

Additionally, JPG compression is being ignored during this transfer, so even if the map seems to be under 2 MB, it may not transfer because it exceeds 2 MB when uncompressed.

heruca will eventually have BRPG automatically break the map transfers into smaller pieces to get around this limitation.

Workaround

Until this problem is fixed, if you need to use a map that is over 2 MB when uncompressed, you must send it to the players via email or IMs and have them load it in advance.

Simply putting the map file in the maps folder is not enough. They must start up BRPG, open the map panel [M], and load the map to import it fully into BRPG.

Once that is done, it will load from their User Cast file anytime it is needed during an online session.

Note that if the map file is modified by the GM, the players will not see the changes unless the map is renamed and the process is repeated.

This has been added and will be included in the next version of BRPG (v1.0).

This can be moved to fixed bugs, right?

(I know a number of the open bugs probably can, but I figure I'd snipe one by responding to it. ;))

Yes, the issue of map transfers is fixed, though keep in mind that the 2 MB limitation still applies to all other types of files.
