Best screenshot contest

Post by heruca » Mon Apr 09, 2007 9:01 pm

I don't think anyone would disagree that I need new, and more compelling, screenshots on the main site to really show what BRPG is all about. The ones currently posted are dated and tame. Seeing as how I'm always short of time, I think it would be fun to get some screenshots from you all, the actual users. So I've decided to hold a contest.

Submit an entry any time between now and April 29, either by email to me, or by posting a link to your screenshot/s in this thread. On April 30th, I'll choose the best ones and post them on the main site. Whoever submits the best screenshot/s will win a prize: your choice of either a Floating License or a Player Client.

Keep in mind that I'm most likely to chose the winner based on which screenshots do the best job of showing off BRPG's features and visuals, or shows something in a particularly creative manner.

By entering this contest, you grant me permission to post your screenshot on the main website, even if you don't win the prize. And even if you don't care about winning the prize, this could be a fun way that you can help out, and keep my focus on coding new features. :)

PS: If you want, you are allowed to enhance/supplement your BRPG screenshots with text labels, descriptive boxes of text, and/or arrows pointing to various interface elements, since that can help explain things more clearly.
 Please help spread the word about BRPG and BGE, and never hesitate to tell me how I can make them better suit your gaming needs.

Here it is ...
Nothing too fancy ... an extra tree, two buttons with a brabbling brook and a roar from the (not so) dead Mountain Troll when it jumps up to attack. Obviously the group is moving in the dark. They are looking for a good campsite.
The two Orcs are hidden from players view.

Ambush ahead ...

Nice. That makes two entries so far (one was via email).

What's with the non-concentric reveal circles? Was that FoW mask generated in BRPG, or via post-processing?

??? they look concentric to me ... All done within BRPG.
The Jose character is the one with the torch.

I'd guess Kelpi is using a widescreen resolution on his computer. ;-)

What we're seeing is that the circles don't seem to line up. They should be parallel on all sides if they are applied to the same figure. Are you sure only Jose has a lightsource?

Thanks, I see it too now in my version.
I'll check it out. Perhaps it's using the Fractional Cells options for the map.

Unfortunately, there were only two entries for this contest. :(

The winner is Vry. He submitted his entry via email, but I'm posting it here so you all can see it.

Kepli's entry was very nice, too, but I just wasn't crazy about the FoW weirdness (not his fault).

Congratulations, Vry! Please let me know your choice of prize, a Player Client or a Floating License (I'm guessing the Player Client, since AFAIK you don't own a GM Client).

BTW, I'll get this posted to the Screenshots page as soon as I have a chance to update it.

Oops! I never even posted Vry's winning entry! Will remedy that ASAP.

But yeah, most of the screenshots posted on the main site are really old, and could use updating. I'm not planning any more contests right now, but if you'd like to submit a nice screenshot, it's almost certain to get used. I've seen your work, Cisticola.

Call me crazy... but I think it's time for another competition. Nothing brings posters and game enthusiasts out of the woodwork like free stuff!

Whatcha think, Heruca?

Sounds good, since the screenshots page is still very anemic and doesn't really show much about what differentiates BRPG from other VTs. I'll start a new thread for the new contest, with details.
