generic wooded trail map

I made this map in DJ especially for BRPG. That's why all the trees are stumps. This way you can add trees as objects. This gives that cool effect of figures walking beneath the tree branches, and if you hide a tree to see underneath, you have the stump to show the location of the tree trunk.

This map is intended to be 40 cells horizontal by 32 cells vertical.

I thought I'd throw in some screenshots in case anyone is unfamiliar with using tree objects versus placing them in your DJ map.

Excellent, Ursus.

Now take it to the next level, by creating a FoW Overlay, so that the treetops automatically self-expose as you move the figure around.

Here's how you would do that:
1. Load the Encounter.
2. Sideboard the figure, and make sure all the tree objects are visible.
3. Select "Export Screenshot" from the BG button's popup menu.
4. When prompted for a name, call it "Tree Canopies", or something similar.
5. Un-Sideboard the figure.
6. Assign the figure a "Light Source". Chose one of the FoW Reveals listed.
7. Enable Fog of War, and select "Dynamic Only".
8. Click the "FoW Overlay" button, and select your "Tree Canopies" screenshot.
9. Save the Encounter.

If you want to share the result, export a media bundle, then create a zip file containing the bundle, the "Tree Canopies" overlay, and the Encounter file, and upload it here.

That sounds cool. I'll put it together soon.

Oh, and I think for this you probably want to hide the hexgrid prior to exporting the screenshot.

Here's some screenshots of using a treetop FoW overlay.

I can't seem to upload the overlay and map, though. Wasn't the upload size limit increased to 20 MB?

I think I found the problem. I'll test it in a bit, but it should be fixed now.

Feel free to try uploading the overlay again. Don't forget to zip it first though. It wouldn't be good to have a 20 MB file load every time someone views the thread ;-)

Thanks Omnidon!
Here is the zip that contains the map and the overlay.

Hi

I tried following the steps listed below

"Now take it to the next level, by creating a FoW Overlay, so that the treetops automatically self-expose as you move the figure around.

Here's how you would do that:
1. Load the Encounter.
2. Sideboard the figure, and make sure all the tree objects are visible.

but when I do this the FOW overlay generated by the screenshot is 1/3 the size

when I download the zip files everything works but when I manually try to do it it doesn't work, can anybody help me..?

Thanks
Ulrictar

Unfortunately, BRPG's screenshot feature isn't ideal for creating a FoW Overlay, since the image it generates is dependent on the current zoom level. It might work for very small maps, if you take the screenshot at 200% zoom, but it's really best to use a mapping program or a graphic editor to compose your FoW Overlays.

The square base comes from Battlegrounds when you add the figure to the map. It's not part of the figure. You should be able to select the type of base when you add a figure to your map.
