The ICE software from Microsoft could be useful in stitching together multiple scans of pieces of a map or gameboard. This could be quite useful when creating a gameboard image for use in BGE or BRPG, since many gameboards from published games are far too large to scan all at once on a typical consumer flatbed scanner.
I learned about this on the BoardgameGeek forums, where it got praise from a few people.
